Define the task and the user
Consider the duration of use, range of activities and people sharing the setting. Review adjustable options and test samples rather than choosing solely from a photograph.
Check the whole workpoint
The desk, chair, monitor position, power and storage function together. Test the configuration with the equipment and accessories that people actually use.
Plan for care and change
Ask about warranty terms, spare parts, repair and cleaning. A furniture decision should consider the years of use ahead as well as the initial purchase.
Ask people what gets in the way
Invite input on distractions, access, comfort and the settings people cannot currently find. A workplace brief should allow different experiences to be heard.
Take this into your brief.
- Trial a representative workpoint with users.
- Confirm dimensions, power access and cable routes.
- Record care instructions and replacement options.
Write down one priority, one constraint and one question you still need to answer. Review them beside the plan or material sample before agreeing the next design decision.
